What is a Monotype? A monotype is a way of making a print where only one unique print is produced. The artist applies a slow-drying ink directly to a plate. Paper is then placed on the plate and run through a press. Jan Serr's monotypes obtain their dense coloration with multiple pulls through the press. After each print is pulled, details are then added by hand.
