Anne Miotke’s still-lifes are mysterious studies of luminosity and unexpected contrasts. Applying very thin washes of watercolor in layers creates her greatly detailed photorealist paintings. Often 30-40 layers are needed to create the dramatic shadows and intense colors. Her works balance traditional aesthetics and contemporary approaches to composition, embracing a high standard of beauty using only subtle symbolisms of strictly personal reflection.
