Mary Jones likes to focus on the details of life. Her works are narrative glimpses into childhood memories and everyday occurrences. At first glance, the works are playful and naïve but with further contemplation they grow impish and insightful. Her hard-edged drawings reflect a Chicago imagist school of influence. Elongated figures dance around elements of collage, fragments of text and curious perspectives creating an unpredictable sense of whimsy. Along with having won numerous awards for her artwork, Mary Jones has illustrated a number of educational books. The artist received a BFA from the University of Illinois and an MFA from Indiana University.
