Photographer, Steven Foster creates discerning images through repetition and digital manipulation of common objects. The results are often rhythmic and mesmerizing and test our perceptions by drawing attention to subtle movements created by simple constructions. In his singular photographs, the object in the center of the image is removed from peripheral contexts to heighten the viewer’s connective response.
The artist’s work is in the permanent collections of major art museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, IL. He has been awarded several Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowships and was honored with a mid-career, solo retrospective exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1982.
