Paintings by Marion Coffey

Boldly colorful and free of detail, Marion Coffey's paintings suggest the essence of an object or view. This grouping of works celebrates her use of vivid color, her hometown of Milwaukee, and her travels to England, Ireland, and Tanzania.

Her seemingly unbalanced shapes resonate and animate the surface of the picture plane. While her paintings sometimes verge on the abstract, they fully capture the reality of the scene. The bumpy texture of the handmade paper and its fun ragged edges are a perfect fit for her enthusiastic use of color, paired with her carefree layering of shapes.

Marion Coffey’s paintings and prints are in public and private collections across the country including the National Museum of Women in the Arts and The White House in Washington, DC, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Marion studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Fontainebleau’s School of Fine Art in France.

Tory Folliard Gallery has represented the art of Marion Coffey since 1992.
