Dennis Nechvatal

Dennis Nechvatal makes strong and powerful images whether it is a meticulous landscape, still-life, or a network of metal masks. At first primitive in feel, they bid closer viewing and slowly convert into sophisticated reinventions of the natural world. The artist's Offerings series feature abundant floral bouquets lush with delicate brushstrokes. His popular Face/Mask paintings reveal layers of faces within a collage of hand-cut and hand-formed tin masks.

Russell Panczenko

Russell Panczenko's highly detailed photographs capture the beauty of nature. The artist seeks out unique combinations and symbiotic relationships of flora in gardens across the country to photograph. His luminous imagery effortlessly likens itself to historical still-life paintings of the past. A self-taught photographer, Panczenko does not pretend to be an expert botanist. Instead, he seeks to create beautiful images focusing on the subtle graphic qualities of the selected plant and/or emulate the still-life paintings of the historical past. 

Panczenko received his Ph.D. in Art History from the Universita Degli Studi Di Firenze, in Florence, Italy, and his B.A. in Classics from Fairfield University, Connecticut. From 1984 until his retirement in 2017, he was the director and chief curator of the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
