Viewing Room Part III
Michael Hedges
Michael Hedges’ expressionist paintings are as much about energy as they are about color and texture. Hyper-pigmented hues and thick, gestural brushstrokes effortlessly enliven his canvases. Creating striking, meditative, and modern compositions, he produces a dialogue of reverberating hues and mark-making in every painting, showcasing his keen understanding of color, line, and form. His love of painting is matched only by his tremendous skill and dedication.

32 x 42” (Framed)
The two to three initial colors I start with act as the backbone and structure of my paintings. My response and contemplation of these color relationships give birth to my compositions. I strive to create intense, even, and stunning color relationships that are balanced by form and texture into a controlled elegance.

Jason Rohlf
“The one thing I can count on in defiance of my intent and regardless of how hopeful my expectations, each attempt will undergo many revisions as I participate in the creation of a piece. With the end result ideally being the cumulative effect of the whole and not just working toward the outermost layer.
Like a recalled memory once obscure things, hidden elements from the pieces past will form an essential role on the surface; often as relief, while the most hard fought details will likely earn a swift opaque top coat as a result of each days fits and starts.”

TRANSIT I, II, II
Acrylic on Canvas

I took a series of heavier-grit sandpapers and razors and pushed down through the textures, making all of these underlayers pop through, so you start to see an endless number of alterations.

Caitlin Lempia-Bradford
Caitlin Lempia-Bradford's artwork blends her passions for patterns, games, science fiction, and mathematics. While her work is grounded in play, it gravitates toward these systems because of the poetic potential found in structure, sequence, and repetition. Caitlin is fascinated by both the long and short cycles that emerge, as well as the unexpected anomalies that surface during the creation process. Her paintings embrace imperfection and chaos, highlighting irregularity and soft geometry.

By giving over some agency, I’m able to be surprised. Using this process, there are an infinite number of choices; I celebrate the choices I make while mourning the choices not made.

Shane McAdams
“The form in my work is often analogous to the methods of its creation. Their structures emerge from the physical properties inherent in the specific, mundane materials I use, such as Elmer’s glue, correction fluid, ballpoint pen ink, and resin. I stretch the limits of these media by subjecting them to non-traditional applications that ultimately generate complexity that belies the simplicity of their creation, like agates polished in a tumbler for two weeks, or sandstone outcroppings rubbed down by the wind for millennia.”

Ben Grant
Ben Grant explores the potential for meaning through complex compositions of bold color and biomorphic shapes, each individually and uniquely painted. A profusion of patterns, reminiscent of everyday objects such as fabrics, custom cars, game boards, and carnival rides, creates a perpetual visual experience.
