GEORGE SHIPPERLEY
Shades of Blue
December 3 - December 27, 2025
George Shipperley is an impressionist artist known for his originality, creativity, and vibrant use of color. Working primarily in oil pastel and oil stick, Shipperley creates poetic compositions that blend abstract expressionism with grounded realism. His work focuses on landscapes, still lifes, and interiors—not to document them, but to interpret their emotion and rhythm through instinctive, imaginative vision.
With a distinctive technique of layering and incising oil pastel, Shipperley transforms natural subjects into expressive, lyrical forms. His trees, skies, and land are rendered not just for structure, but for their grace, movement, and the emotional response they inspire. “How we paint, not what we paint, is the essence of a good work of art,” he says.
A native of Illinois, Shipperley studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Aurora University. His work is held in public and private collections across the United States.
