Mark Mulhern 2024 MOWA Retrospective

The Museum of Wisconsin Art MOWA in West Bend WI, will be hosting Mark Mulhern's Retrospective from April 27th -July 21st. MOWA is a different kind of museum. Everything they exhibit and talk about has been made by an artist with deep connections to the state of Wisconsin. Mark Mulhern is originally from Portage and is now a long-term resident of the Milwaukee area. One of the top figurative artists working today, Mark Mulhern portrays people and everyday objects in their surroundings. Carefully positioned figures appear natural as they exchange subtle gazes and implicit gestures. Liberated from detail, these paintings expose moments of everyday life that tap into the viewer’s mind. Complementing the expressiveness of the figurative works are the artist's simplified abstractions of shape, color, and the containment of light.
