Congratulations to Mary Bero, one of two winners of the 2023 Forward Art Prize. This award was launched by two local artists in the Madison area in 2017 to honor women artists working in the Dane County Area who show exceptional creativity and compelling prospects for the future. The Image above, RED WALLFLOWER is the image that won her the award this last year. Mary’s work focuses on the use of both traditional and non-traditional needleworking techniques combined with various other media such as painting and printmaking. Bero is deeply drawn to the process by which she responds and interacts with the tactile nature of her media. Her work is centered on the exploration and experience of different artistic processes and how we develop relationships with them.
